Home Guard

Home Guard was a force raised in the United Kingdom in 1940 to supplement the regular armed forces during World War II (1939-1945). The guard members’ duties were to defend the territory near their homes, to guard against parachute invaders, and to hold strategic points. The Home Guard consisted mainly of volunteers. It was badly equipped at first. Later, the Home Guard helped operate coastal and anti-aircraft batteries. It was disbanded late in 1945.
