Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) was a large international group of companies that produced specialty chemical products. It was created in 1926 from the merger of four British chemical companies: British Dyestuffs; Brunner, Mond and Company; Nobel Industries; and United Alkali. ICI had its headquarters in London. The company produced such goods as adhesives, food additives, fragrances, paints, petrochemicals, and synthetic fibers. ICI was the first to produce polyethylene in 1939. In 2008, ICI was acquired by the Dutch manufacturing corporation Akzo Nobel.
