Makati

Makati (pop. 629,616) is a city on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It lies about half a mile (0.8 kilometer) south of Manila, the capital of the Philippines, and occupies an area of about 11 square miles (29 square kilometers). Makati has secure residential areas inhabited by well-to-do Filipinos and members of Manila’s foreign community. One area, Forbes Park, is known as “Millionaires Row.”

Makati has high-rise apartment and office buildings. Ayala Avenue is the center of the Philippines’ finance industry. Places of interest include the Ayala Museum and the Ayala Center, a major shopping center.
