Manukau is a ward (district) within the city of Auckland, New Zealand. The ward is governed by the Auckland Council. Two local boards handle community issues and serve as a link between the community and the Auckland Council. Manukau’s industries include farming, manufacturing, and heavy engineering. More than half of the population are Māori or Polynesian.
Manukau was formed as a city in 1965 when two local government areas were combined. In 2010, it became part of Auckland.
