Marks and Spencer

Marks and Spencer is a large British retail company that operates a chain of department stores in the United Kingdom and other countries, such as Canada, the United States, and Ireland. The company exports goods to many countries.

In 1884, Michael Marks, a Polish refugee, set up a penny bazaar (market stall) in Leeds. Marks’s business prospered, and in 1894, he went into partnership with Thomas Spencer to found the present company.
