McCabe, Stanley (1910-1968), an Australian cricketer, was one of Australia’s finest batsmen. In 39 Test matches, he scored 2,748 runs, averaging 48.21 runs in each innings. His career included three masterful innings, 187 runs not out against England in 1932, 189 runs not out against South Africa in 1935, and 232 runs against England in 1938. In each of these innings, he saved Australia from defeat. He scored 1,000 runs in a season on three occasions. McCabe was also an excellent fieldsman and a good medium-pace bowler.
Stanley Joseph McCabe was born on July 16, 1910, in Grenfell, New South Wales. He made his Test debut against England in 1930 and his final Test appearance, also against England, in 1938. McCabe was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1935. He died of a fall over a cliff on Aug. 25, 1968.
