Mockridge, Russell (1928-1958), was one of the greatest Australian cyclists in the history of the sport. Mockridge won gold medals in the 1,000 meters pursuit and in the tandem, with Lionel Cox, at the Helsinki Olympic Games in 1952. He was killed on Sept. 13, 1958, when he fell under a bus while competing in a road race near Melbourne, Australia. Mockridge was born in Geelong, Victoria. His autobiography, My Life on Wheels, was published in 1960, after his death.
