Iolo Morganwg (1746-1826) was the pseudonym of Edward Williams, a Welsh bard (poet and singer) and antiquarian. His theories about ancient bardic traditions in Wales led to the foundation of the Gorsedd (throne), a council of Welsh bards. The modern Welsh festival known as the eisteddfod also stems from his work. Iolo Morganwg based some of his ideas on unreliable sources, but his work was accepted at the time by many Welsh people. He was born on March 10, 1746, in Llancarfan, South Glamorgan. He died on Dec. 18, 1826.
