Nimrod

Nimrod was an ancient Mesopotamian king mentioned in the Hebrew Bible . He was a grandson of Ham, one of Noah’s sons. Nimrod is described as “the first on earth to become a mighty warrior,” as “a mighty hunter” (Genesis 10:8-10), and as “the first to be a mighty one on the earth” (1 Chronicles 1:10). According to the book of Genesis, Nimrod’s kingdom included “Babel,” “Erech” (Uruk), and “Accad” (Akkad) “in the land of Shinar” (Babylon and what is now Iraq). Nimrod may have founded the city of Nineveh , which became the last capital of the Assyrian Empire. The prophet Micah refers to the Assyrian Empire poetically as “the land of Nimrod” (Micah 5:6).
