O’Connor, Thomas Power (1848-1929), was an Irish journalist and politician who was a vigorous champion of Irish nationalism. He served in the British Parliament from 1880 to 1929. He was commonly called T. P. O’Connor.
O’Connor was born on Oct. 5, 1848, in Athlone, in County Westmeath. He started work as a reporter for a Dublin newspaper in 1867. He then founded and edited the Star of London, the Sunday Sun, T. P.’s Weekly, and other papers. He also wrote books and articles. They include The Parnell Movement (1886) and Memoirs of an Old Parliamentarian (1929). He died on Nov. 18, 1929.
