Redgrave, Lynn (1943-2010),was a noted British actress and a member of a famous acting family. Her father was the famous English stage and motion-picture actor Sir Michael Redgrave. Rachel Kempson, her mother, was a noted classical actress. Lynn’s older sister, Vanessa, and her younger brother, Corin, also became established actors. In addition, her nieces Natasha Richardson and Joely Richardson, Vanessa’s daughters, became successful actresses.
Lynn Rachel Redgrave was born on March 8, 1943, in London. She studied at the Central School of Music and Drama in London before making her stage debut in 1962. She made her motion-picture debut in 1963. Redgrave was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in the movie comedy-drama Georgy Girl (1966). Her other films include Tom Jones (1963), The Virgin Soldiers (1969), The National Health (1974), The Big Bus (1976), Sunday Lovers (1980), Shine (1996), Gods and Monsters (1998), The Next Best Thing (2000), and The Jane Austen Book Club (2007).
Redgrave settled in the United States in 1974, where she made many television appearances on talk shows and game shows and also as the star of comedy series. In 1996, she performed a one-woman stage show called Shakespeare for My Father, an autobiographical account of her difficult relationship with her famous father. Redgrave died on May 2, 2010.
