Saint Albans

Saint Albans (pop. 148,167) is a local government district in Hertfordshire, England. St. Albans stands on the site of the Roman city of Verulamium. The remains of Verulamium include an amphitheater and a mosaic pavement. St. Albans Cathedral was founded as an abbey in 797 by Offa, king of Mercia. Two battles of the Wars of the Roses were fought at St. Albans, in 1455 and 1461.
