Sandwell (pop. 341,832) is a district in West Midlands Metropolitan County, England. It includes the towns of Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Smethwick, Tipton, Wednesbury, and West Bromwich. Local industries in Sandwell produce chemicals, processed food, and a variety of metal and engineering products. People living in the district played an important part in the Industrial Revolution, a period of great industrial development in the 1700’s and 1800’s.
