Sefton (pop. 279,233) is a district in Merseyside Metropolitan County, England, near the city of Liverpool. It includes the towns of Bootle, Crosby, and Southport. The southern part of Sefton includes docks on the River Mersey.
Sefton’s golf courses have hosted many important tournaments. The British Open has been played several times at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport. Aintree Racecourse, home to the annual Grand National horse race, also is in Sefton. Bootle is the site of several government and private computer centers. The northern part of the district includes a rich agricultural area.
