Station

Station, in Australia and New Zealand, refers to a large cattle or sheep farm. Cattle stations are generally much larger than sheep stations. Australia’s largest cattle station, Anna Creek, in South Australia, covers about 11,600 square miles (30,100 square kilometers) and has about 20,000 cattle. Alexandria, in the Northern Territory, supports the most cattle—about 60,000 head. The average size of stations in the more remote areas of Australia is less than 300 square miles (775 square kilometers).
