Stirling

Stirling (pop. 92,604) is a local government area in central Scotland. It is a council area, the primary form of local government in Scotland. The city of Stirling is the region’s main urban area. The region also includes the towns of Callender, Doune, and Dunblane.

Stirling has extensive areas of mountains and moorland. In the east are the lowlands of the Forth Valley. The city of Stirling is known as the Gateway to the Highlands because of its location where the lowlands and the highlands meet. Stirling Castle featured prominently in many historic military campaigns.
