Telford and Wrekin

Telford and Wrekin (pop. 185,541) is a local government district in England, administered from the town of Telford. In 1998, it became a unitary authority, the primary form of local government in the United Kingdom. The district includes the towns of Dawley, Oakengates, and Wellington. Traditional industries include iron manufacturing and heavy engineering, but there are also high-technology industries. The first all-metal bridge, erected in 1781, still stands at Ironbridge. Near Telford is the Wrekin Hill, a local landmark. See also Shropshire.
