Trafford (pop. 235,052) is a local government area in Greater Manchester, England. It is bounded in the west by the Manchester Ship Canal. Altrincham, Carrington, and Trafford Park, the area’s main industrial sites, produce a variety of manufactured goods. Old Trafford is the home of Manchester United soccer club. In the south, Hale is mainly residential, and there are some rural areas.
