Vale of Glamorgan (pop. 131,939) is a local government area in southern Wales. It is a unitary authority, the primary form of local government in the United Kingdom. The Vale of Glamorgan includes Cardiff Airport and a large Royal Air Force base. A stretch of coastline along the southern boundary of the area includes the vacation resorts of Barry Island and Penarth. Barry is an important industrial port with large deepwater docks. Penarth, home for many people who work in nearby Cardiff, has parkland. The inland region has attractive scenery. Cowbridge is a market town in the heart of the Vale. See also Glamorgan.
