Weatherill, Bernard (1920-2007), was speaker of the United Kingdom House of Commons from 1983 to 1992. Weatherill served as member of Parliament for Croydon North East from 1964 to 1992. He held junior posts in the Conservative government that held office between 1970 and 1974. Weatherill became chairman of Ways and Means and deputy speaker in 1979.
Weatherill was born on Nov. 25, 1920, in Guildford, England. He served in the British and Indian armies during World War II (1939-1945). Weatherill trained as a tailor and worked in his family’s tailoring company until 1970. He was created Baron Weatherill in 1992. He died on May 6, 2007.
