Wilson, Edward

Wilson, Edward (1872-1912), an English explorer, took part in Robert Falcon Scott’s two expeditions to Antarctica (see Scott, Robert Falcon ). Wilson headed the scientific staff in the second expedition, which left London in 1910. Wilson reached the South Pole on Jan. 17, 1912, with Scott and three other companions. The five men died on their return journey, probably in March 1912. Wilson was born on July 23, 1872, in Cheltenham, in Gloucestershire, England.
