Wirral

Wirral (pop. 320,199) is a district in Merseyside Metropolitan County, in northwestern England. The district is situated on the Wirral peninsula and is bounded on its northeastern side by the River Mersey, and on its southwestern side by the River Dee. The Irish Sea bounds it to the northwest. Manufacturing industries are concentrated in the east of the district around Birkenhead, which has extensive port facilities. Farming is important in the west. West Kirby, Hoylake, and Wallasey are residential seaside towns in Wirral. These towns attract many tourists in the summer.
