Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton (pop. 263,727) is a city in West Midlands Metropolitan County, England, northwest of Birmingham. On Dec. 19, 2000, Wolverhampton, Brighton and Hove (also in England), and Inverness in Scotland were granted city status.

Wolverhampton has a great variety of industries. Its main products include steel, industrial machinery, tools, hardware, and paints and varnishes.

Wolverhampton is an old settlement. It is mentioned as a town in a royal charter of 985. In a government reorganization in 1966, Wolverhampton was expanded to include most of the town of Bilston, as well as parts of Coseley, Darlaston, Sedgley, Wednesfield, and Willenhall.
