Bond, James, is a fictional English secret agent created by the British novelist Ian Fleming. The character of Bond gained international popularity through Fleming’s books and also through a series of immensely successful motion pictures. Bond is a dashing, sophisticated man who attracts both beautiful women and villains. He is also known by the code name 007. The double-0 means that he is licensed to kill at his discretion.
Fleming introduced Bond in his novel Casino Royale (1953). Bond appeared in 11 other novels and two collections of short stories. The first Bond motion picture was Dr. No (1962). The film made a star out of Scottish actor Sean Connery, who played Bond in six other films. A number of other actors have also played Bond, including Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.
