Donald Duck, a duck who wears a sailor suit, is a famous cartoon character created by Walt Disney. Donald was portrayed as an excitable, often quarrelsome character who spoke in a quacking voice. Donald made his first appearance in the animated cartoon The Wise Little Hen in 1934 and was starring in his own cartoons by 1937.
Donald Duck appeared in about 125 cartoons through 1959. He was also featured in a comic strip starting in 1936 and a monthly comic book beginning in 1943. The cartoons and comics also featured Donald’s girlfriend, Daisy Duck; his mischievous nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie; and his wealthy but miserly uncle, Scrooge McDuck. Donald appeared in four Disney feature-length motion pictures during the 1940’s, Saludos Amigos (1943), The Three Caballeros (1945), Fun and Fancy Free (1947), and Melody Time (1948). He also appeared in several video movies and in video games that feature the Disney characters.
