Star Wars

Star Wars became one of the most popular and profitable motion pictures in history. It was released in 1977 as Star Wars, but the title later was expanded to Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope. This science-fiction fantasy set standards for special effects that revolutionized filmmaking. Directed and written by American filmmaker George Lucas, Star Wars was the first of a series of enormously popular movies. Additionally, it was the first film in a trilogy (set of three) that also included Star Wars: Episode V—The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Star Wars: Episode VI—Return of the Jedi (1983). Lucas supervised the making of all three movies and wrote or helped write the screenplays for them. However, he did not direct the two later films.
