Abilene Christian University

Abilene Christian University is a private institution of higher learning in Abilene, Texas. The university states its mission as “to educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world.” It is affiliated with the Churches of Christ but welcomes students of all religious backgrounds.

Abilene Christian University, or ACU, traces its origins to a Christian elementary and high school called Childers Classical Institute, founded in 1906. College-level classes began in 1919. The school’s name was changed in 1920 to Abilene Christian College and in 1976 to Abilene Christian University.

Abilene Christian’s athletic teams are nicknamed the Wildcats. The university is known for its strong programs in track and field. Track star Bobby Morrow is an alumnus.
