Azusa Pacific University is an Evangelical institution of higher education in Azusa, California, near Los Angeles. It is affiliated with five religious organizations—the Brethren in Christ, the Church of God, the Free Methodist Church, the Missionary Church, and the Salvation Army.
Azusa Pacific traces its origins to the Training School for Christian Workers, established in 1899. The school, later renamed Azusa College, combined in 1965 with another church school, Los Angeles Pacific College, to form Azusa Pacific College. A third church-affiliated institution, Arlington College in Long Beach, merged with Azusa Pacific in 1968. In 1981, Azusa Pacific gained university status. Its athletic teams are called the Cougars.
