Boise, << BOY zee or BOY see, >> State University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Boise, Idaho. Middleton Barnwell, an Episcopal bishop, founded the school in 1932 as Boise Junior College. In 1939, the Boise Chamber of Commerce took over its operation. The institution became a four-year college in 1965 and entered the state’s system of higher education in 1969. It became Boise State University in 1974. Boise State University athletic teams are called the Broncos.
