Bridgeport, University of, is a private, independent institution of higher learning in Connecticut. Its main campus is in Bridgeport, and it has branch campuses in Stamford and Trumbull. The institution was founded as the Junior College of Connecticut in 1927 and became the University of Bridgeport in 1947. Its College of Chiropractic, established in 1991, was the first chiropractic school associated with a university in the United States. University of Bridgeport athletic teams are called the Knights.
