Bridgewater State University

Bridgewater State University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. It was established in 1840 as Bridgewater Normal School for the education and training of teachers. In 1932, the school was renamed Bridgewater State Teachers College. It became State College of Bridgewater in 1960, Bridgewater State College in 1968, and Bridgewater State University in 2010. Today, the university offers programs of study in many fields in addition to teaching. Among the facilities at the university is the John Joseph Moakley Center for Technological Applications, which focuses on information technology. The university’s athletic teams are called the Bears.
