Central Missouri, University of

Central Missouri, University of, is a public, state-assisted institution of higher learning in Warrensburg, Missouri. It was founded in 1871 as the State Normal School for the Second Normal District of Missouri. The school’s name was changed to Central Missouri State Teachers College in 1919. It became Central Missouri State College in 1946, Central Missouri State University in 1972, and the University of Central Missouri in 2007. Men’s athletic teams at the university are known as the Mules, while women’s teams are called the Jennies.

Programs offered at the university include liberal arts, science, education, and business. Some doctoral degrees are offered in partnership with other universities.
