Denison University

Denison University is a private liberal arts college in Granville, Ohio. The Ohio Baptist Education Society founded the school in 1831 as a men’s college called the Granville Literary and Theological Institution. In 1854, the college was renamed Denison University in honor of William S. Denison, who made a generous financial contribution to the institution. In 1900, Shepardson College for Women became part of Denison, making it coeducational.

Denison University offers only undergraduate degrees. Distinguished Denison alumni include college football coach Woody Hayes, actor Hal Holbrook, Senator Richard G. Lugar of Indiana, and race car driver Bobby Rahal. The university’s athletic teams are called Big Red.
