East Carolina University

East Carolina University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Greenville, North Carolina. It was founded in 1907 as East Carolina Teachers Training School and in 1921 became East Carolina Teachers College. Over the years, the curriculum expanded to include liberal arts programs, and in 1947 the college was renamed East Carolina College. It became East Carolina University in 1967. The university’s athletic teams are called the Pirates.
