East Central University

East Central University is a public, state-supported university in Ada, Oklahoma. The institution was established in 1909 as East Central State Normal School. In 1920, it was renamed East Central State Teachers College. It became East Central State College in 1939, East Central Oklahoma State University in 1974, and finally East Central University in 1985. East Central University is known for its unique cartography program and its outstanding departments of nursing, environmental health science, and human resources.

East Central has produced many distinguished alumni. Among the better-known graduates are professional golfer Gil Morgan, former Oklahoma governors Robert S. Kerr and George Nigh, and former Arizona governor Ernest McFarland. The university’s athletic teams are called the Tigers.
