Elmira College is a private institution of higher learning in Elmira, New York. It was founded as a liberal arts college in 1855. Elmira was the first college to offer a college education to women that was equal to that offered men. The college requires all students to complete an internship and to perform 60 hours or more of community service. The students receive academic credit for this work. Elmira College athletic teams are called the Soaring Eagles.
