Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is the world’s largest fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace. The university offers degree programs through the doctoral level at its campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona. The university also operates teaching sites and programs throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East and provides online courses. Embry-Riddle offers internship or cooperative education opportunities with most major airlines, many aircraft manufacturers, and such governmental agencies as the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, and Naval Air Systems Command.

Businessman T. Higbee Embry and pilot John Paul Riddle founded the Embry-Riddle Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1925. In 1926, the company opened the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation in Cincinnati to train airplane pilots. In 1939, Embry-Riddle relocated to Miami, Florida, and opened a number of flight centers in Florida. After World War II began that same year, several nations sent young men to Embry-Riddle to become pilots and aviation technicians. In 1965, Embry-Riddle moved from Miami to Daytona Beach. In 1970, the school was renamed Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The school opened a second residential campus in Prescott, Arizona, in 1978. Embry-Riddle athletic teams are called the Eagles.
