Emporia State University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Emporia, Kansas. It was established in 1863 as Kansas State Normal School. The school became Kansas State Teachers College in 1923 and was renamed Emporia Kansas State College in 1974. The college became Emporia State University in 1977. Emporia State’s athletic teams are called the Hornets.
