Fresno Pacific University is a private institution of higher learning in Fresno, California. It is affiliated with the Pacific District Conference of the Mennonite Brethren Churches. It was founded in 1944 as Pacific Bible Institute. The institute became Pacific College of Fresno in 1960. It was renamed Fresno Pacific College in 1979 and Fresno Pacific University in 1997. In addition to the school’s main campus in Fresno, it has an additional campus in north Fresno and campuses in Bakersfield, Merced, and Visalia. The university’s athletic teams are called the Sunbirds.
