Gannon University is a private, church-supported university in Erie, Pennsylvania. The institution was founded in 1925 and became a university in 1979. In 1989, the university merged with Villa Maria College, a women’s school. Gannon University is affiliated with the Diocese of Erie, a Roman Catholic Church district. Gannon University’s athletic teams are known as the Golden Knights.
