Flinders University

Flinders University is an institution of higher education that has its main campus in Adelaide, Australia. The school also has a number of regional campuses. Flinders University was established in 1966. The university chose its name in honor of the navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored much of the South Australian coastline in 1802 (see Flinders, Matthew). In 1991, the university combined with the Sturt Campus of the former South Australian College of Advanced Education. The Sturt campus had been next to the Flinders Adelaide campus. Also on the Adelaide campus is the Australian Science and Mathematics School, which opened in 2003.
