Saint Andrews, University of

Saint Andrews, University of, is an institution of higher education in Saint Andrews, Scotland. It is the oldest university in Scotland and the third oldest, after Oxford and Cambridge, in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1410, Saint Andrews University was recognized by a papal bull (decree) in 1413. Women students were first admitted to the university in 1892.

The university offers courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Saint Andrews does not have a separate campus. The university buildings and student housing are mixed with other buildings in the town of Saint Andrews.

In 1998, the university, in conjunction with Conoco (UK) Ltd. (now part of ConocoPhillips), launched the Saint Andrews Prize and a related environmental seminar. The award and seminar are aimed at developing practical solutions to environmental problems.
