Nottingham, University of

Nottingham, University of, is an institution of higher education in Nottingham, in the United Kingdom. It was established as University College Nottingham in 1881 on a site in the city center. The university moved to its present location, 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) west of central Nottingham, after World War I (1914-1918). Sir Jesse Boot, an English philanthropist, provided the site and finances for the new buildings. The university received its royal charter in 1948.

The faculty of medicine and health sciences works closely with the University Hospital at the Queen’s Medical Centre near the main campus. Developments by University of Nottingham research departments include pioneering work on magnetic resonance imaging and advances in electronic control systems.

In addition to the main campus, University Park, the university operates the Jubilee Campus and Kings Meadow Campus, both in Nottingham, and a campus in Sutton Bonington. It also has campuses in China and Malaysia.
