Henderson State University

Henderson State University is a public, state-assisted institution of higher learning in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The institution was established in 1890 as Arkadelphia Methodist College. In 1904, it was renamed Henderson College to honor Charles C. Henderson, a college trustee and local businessman. The name was changed to Henderson-Brown College in 1911 to additionally honor Walter W. Brown, another trustee. In 1929, the college became a state institution and was renamed Henderson State Teachers College. It became Henderson State College in 1967 and then Henderson State University in 1975. The dominant school color is red, so the men’s teams are called the Reddies and the women’s teams the Lady Reddies.
