Hood College

Hood College is a private liberal arts college in Frederick, Maryland. The Potomac Synod of the Reformed Church of the United States (now the United Church of Christ) founded the college in 1893 as the Woman’s College of Frederick. In 1912, the institution was renamed Hood College to honor Margaret Scholl Hood, who had donated farmland for the campus. Today, Hood offers graduate and undergraduate education for both women and men. Undergraduate women may live on campus.

Hood College is known for its programs in the natural sciences, especially biology and environmental sciences. The college’s athletic teams are called the Blazers.
