Strathclyde, University of

Strathclyde, University of, is an institution of higher education in Glasgow, Scotland. It was founded in 1796 by John Anderson, a professor of natural philosophy. Its original name was Anderson’s Institution. The institution was affiliated with the University of Glasgow from 1913 to 1964, the year in which Strathclyde achieved full independent university status. In 1993, the university merged with Jordanhill College of Education.

The university offers courses at both graduate and postgraduate levels in many disciplines. Subjects offered include polymer chemistry, Scottish history, and Spanish studies. There are a number of university institutes at Strathclyde.
