Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) is an institution of higher education in Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, Australia. RMIT was established in 1887 as the Working Men’s College and was renamed Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1960. It was granted university status in 1992 and now uses the name RMIT University. RMIT University has three main campuses, at Melbourne, Bundoora, and Brunswick. It also has two international campuses, in Vietnam; and in Barcelona, Spain; as well as international partnerships with China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.
The university focuses on technology and design, offering courses in such subjects as engineering, media studies, and computer science. It is one of five Australian universities that make up the Australian Technology Network.
