Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site

Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site, in Washington, D.C., consists of the part of Pennsylvania Avenue between the United States Capitol and the White House. The site encompasses several blocks of Washington’s commercial district, the Old Post Office, and a number of federal structures. Sometimes called “America’s Main Street,” Pennsylvania Avenue has been the setting for many national ceremonies and political events. The area became a national historic site in September 1965. The National Park Service operates the site.
