Kelly, Paul (1947-…), is an Australian political newspaper journalist and author. He began his career in journalism in 1974, joining The Australian as its chief political correspondent. He moved to the National Times in 1976, and then to The Sydney Morning Herald in 1981. He later returned to The Australian as national affairs editor. Kelly served as editor in chief at The Australian from 1991 to 1996. In 1996, he became the newspaper’s international editor.
Kelly has written several books on Australian political affairs. These books include The Unmaking of Gough (1976, published as The Dismissal in 1983), The Hawke Ascendancy (1984), The End of Certainty: The Story of the 1980’s (1992), and Paradise Divided (2000).
Paul John Kelly was born in Sydney. He received a B.A. degree and an education diploma from the University of Sydney. In 2000, he became the Foundation Professor of Journalism at Charles Sturt University.
