Indianapolis Colts are a professional football team that plays in the National Football League (NFL). The team competes in the South Division of the American Football Conference. The Colts play their home games at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The Colts originated as the Baltimore Colts in 1953 and moved to Indianapolis in 1984. The team was one of the most successful in the NFL from 1958 to 1977. During that 20-year span, the Colts had only three losing seasons. They won the NFL championship in 1958 and 1959 and won Super Bowl V (played in 1971).
From 1978 to 1998, the Colts made only three playoff appearances. A new era of Colts success began shortly after the team drafted quarterback Peyton Manning in 1998. From 1999 to 2014, the Colts won at least 10 games 14 times. The Colts won Super Bowl XLI (played in 2007).
Colts legends have included defensive tackle Art Donovan (1950 and 1953-1961), defensive end Dwight Freeney (2002-2012), wide receiver Marvin Harrison (1996-2008), running back Edgerrin James (1999-2005), Peyton Manning (1998-2010), defensive end Gino Marchetti (1953-1966), center Jeff Saturday (1999-2011, head coach 2022-2023), quarterback Johnny Unitas (1956-1972), and wide receiver Reggie Wayne (2001-2014). Recent stars have included wide receiver T. Y. Hilton, quarterback Andrew Luck, defensive end Robert Mathis, and kicker Adam Vinateri.
